The Greater Is Coming

Part 1-The Shaking

Olives have been around for over 6,000 years but until it was determined that the oil from the olive had so many uses, no one paid much attention to it. Raw or fresh olives are naturally very bitter and just to make them more palatable, olives must be cured and fermented to be consumed as food.

You might ask yourself, "why am I speaking of something so common - olive oil?" That's just it. It's a simple commodity but it is used daily in all our lives. Until that oil begins to flow, the olive itself is just another bitter substance that grows on a tree. Tapping the potential of the olive is a three step process: 1.Shaking 2.Beating 3.Pressing. The first step which is shaking is a very simple, yet a key component to the process. Olives grow on trees and back in the day in order to get the olives off the trees, they were shaken off. The harvesters would shake the tree to get the olives to fall, then pick them up and begin the process. This is what has to happen in our lives sometimes. God has to shake us to get us to realize that there's more inside of us and the shaking separates us from everything that's not God.

Hebrews 12:27

Now this, “Yet once more,” indicates the removal of those things that are being shaken, as of things that are made, that the things which cannot be shaken may remain.

Just like the first part of the process of making olive oil is as simple as shaking the tree to get the fruit to fall, it's the same way with God in our lives. Once he has shaken us, the things that shouldn't be there should fall (the olives.) The olives represent the problems or issues that we have in our life. God shakes them up and down for us. It's then our job to pick them up and begin the process of making olive oil.

Some days are like olives. Some people are like olives. Some circumstances are like olives. This season of unrest in the world – this time of political upheaval in America – this tiresome transition for Faith Church – and yes, even your personal period of discouragement and disappointment – all these things are naturally very bitter and they are hard for us to digest but I want to spend the next couple of weeks planting a seed in your heart that will produce a rich oil for your comfort. Your Greater is coming! Faith Church’s Greater is coming! America’s Greater is coming! The World’s Greater is coming!

Tune in next Sunday to find out about the next step in the olive oil process.
